Universal Brotherhood Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and reverence at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Hut Bay on 11th September 2025. The occasion commemorates the historic speech delivered by Swami Vivekananda at the Parliament of World Religions in Chicago on 11th September 1893, where he introduced the concept of Universal Brotherhood to the world.


The event commenced at 9:00 a.m. with the warm welcome of the dignitaries. The Chief Guest, Shri. Parmanathan (Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Little Andaman), the Guest of Honour, Shri Bidyut Roy (Pradhan, Netaji Nagar) and our Special Guest Lt. Dr. Santhosh Kumar, Indian Coast Guard, Hutbay were welcomed with a bouquet by the students.


The programme began with the lamp lighting ceremony, which was gracefully performed by dignitaries and SMC members.

A special fancy (Swamiji Get-up) dress competition was organized for students of Balvatika I to Class V, where the children enthusiastically dressed up as Swami Vivekananda, capturing his spirit and teachings. The young participants’ efforts were met with much admiration and applause.

The cultural programme continued with the presentation of three melodious songs dedicated to Swami Vivekananda, sung by the school’s choir group. The atmosphere was filled with devotion and inspiration as students paid tribute to Swamiji through music.

Following the cultural presentations, prizes were distributed to the winners of the Fancy Dress Competition and additionally, the Swamiji’s Thought Recitation (for BV 1 to Class II), Rameshwaram Speech (for III to V), and the Chicago Speech Reenactment (for VI - VIII) which were held earlier on 3rd September 2025.

The efforts of parents in guiding their children were also acknowledged during the ceremony. They were appreciated publicly and presented with prizes for their constant support and encouragement to their wards, which greatly contributed to the success of the events.

As a token of gratitude and respect, a mementos were presented to all the dignitaries.



The programme concluded on a patriotic note with the National Anthem at 11:30 a.m. The celebration was a memorable one, filled with inspiration, cultural pride, and a deep reverence for the ideals of Swami Vivekananda.


A total of 149 participants attended (116 students + 15 staff + 18 parents and well wishers).
